Bert was born October 29, 1928, in La Porte City, Iowa, the son of Webb and Margaret Seufferlein Renn.  After his father died and his mother was unable to care for him, Bert was adopted by his aunt, uncle and cousins who became his loving mother, father, brothers and sister.

He attended school in La Porte City, Urbana and Vinton and graduated from Garrison High School in 1947.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army.  He entered the service on April 3, 1951, and served in the Korean Conflict and was discharged as a Corporal in January of 1953.

On March 31, 1951, Bert was united in marriage with Patricia Register at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Bert worked for Davis Implement, Jiggs Johnson Well Drilling and Benton Co. Concrete Products.  He worked at the Ready Mix plant as a driver and plant manager for 39 ½ years, retiring in October of 1992 due to his health.  Bert loved and was very good at his job and devoted his life to it.

He was a member of Vinton’s Geo. G. Luckey American Legion Post 57, VFW Post 8884, the Eagles Club, and First Christian Church, where he served as a Deacon.

Bert loved people and knew most everybody in Benton County.  He loved playing cards, fixing clocks, shooting pool and visiting with friends.  His greatest joys in life were his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.

Bert is survived by his wife of 59 years, Pat of Vinton; one son, Scott (Julie) Hansen of Vinton; two daughters: Susan (Bill) Foss of Vinton and Sally (Dan) Schulte of Watkins; one brother, Glen (Elnora) Hansen of Lakewood, WI; one sister, Charlotte Whitenack of Hiawatha; seven grandchildren: Andy (Jennifer) Noeller of Iowa City; Erin (Patrick) Ferguson of Olathe, KS; Cory Foss of Vinton; Ryan Foss of Omaha, NE; Todd Foss of Vinton; and Alex and Elliot Hansen, both of Vinton; five great-grandchildren: Whitney, Caden and Lily Noeller of Iowa City and Avery Ann and Nash Ferguson of Olathe, KS.
